Australian De Broach was born without a left arm. Her childhood in Sydney was not easy, she says. None of her classmates wanted to take Deb on their sports teams. When Deb was in her twenties, she took up fitness. At first she just went to the gym with her work colleagues, but then she became addicted to this sport. She worked as a DJ and dancer in clubs. One day she saw a girl doing tricks with a pole and decided to try something new. They blew my mind. I stood behind the stage and enthusiastically told them how cool they were and how lucky they were to be able to do this with both hands. Then one of the girls asked if I had ever pole danced. “Why would a one-armed girl compete with you?” I asked. And this girl asked: “Why?” Deb seems to remember.

Deb accepted the challenge and went to the dance studio. This decision changed her life forever. My teacher had never taught a one-armed student before, so climbing the pole was not easy. In addition, the sport itself was very new at that time,” explains the girl. And then the first successes began. Deb quit her job and devoted herself to her new hobby. She won local competitions, and she was offered to join the para-sports team, which she did in Hong Kong in 2012.
