The tendency for casual relationships is inherent in people by evolution

American psychologist David Bass has found in his research that short-term relationships provide adaptive benefits to both sexes, and that during evolution, men and women develop different psychological mechanisms.
Casual sex was carried out by primitive males and dictated the number of offspring. Therefore, their main goal was to gain access to as many women as possible. Desire helped solve this problem. Thanks to him, men sought to possess women. Men don’t always follow the leader, but they are motivated.
University students who are not married to determine the number of sexual partners everyone has. They asked them how many partners they would like to have in a month and in a lifetime.
The results showed that men wanted more than women over different periods of time.
On average, men wanted more than six partners, while women had enough. Over the next three years, men required 10 partners and women only two.

David Schmidt conducted research on six continents and 13 islands. Interesting results were obtained among the Norwegian population. Norwegian women claimed that over 30 years of life they had enough for about five sexual partners, and their compatriots – five times more. This is due to the high level of gender equality in the country.
These results prove that the mechanisms established for men in primitive times are still in effect today and differ slightly among residents of different countries.
