Problems of representatives of this sexual orientation

Bisexual people are more likely to suffer from depression or anxiety disorders. Research shows that they often suffer from high blood pressure and become addicted to smoking and alcohol. In general, their health is rated as worse than other categories of the population.

Researchers also believe that bisexual people are more likely to commit suicide. The last two studies in this area convincingly showed that almost half of bisexual women and more than a third of men had seriously considered or attempted suicide.

What leads to difficulties

But what are the root causes of all these problems? Sexologists and sociologists believe that the main role in this issue is played by factors of society”s attitude towards bisexuality. Society (at least Western society) believes that a person must be homosexual or straight. Most research on bisexuality continues to focus on the fact that it exists. And many researchers seriously believe that this sexual orientation is just a transitional stage between homo- and heterosexuality.

What the statistics say

What to do if a child becomes an outcast at school?

But let”s look at the numbers. According to a survey conducted among young people in 2013, the majority of bisexual men gradually transition to homosexuality. As for women, they are more likely to feign bisexual interest in order to please men.

One of the scientists who conducted the study argued that some people actually pretend to be bisexual just to attract attention. There are many girls who kiss on the lips to become sexually attractive to men. There are teenagers who are willing to pretend to be homosexual just to get the attention of their “problem” and emotionally isolated parents.

In another US survey conducted in 2013, 15% of participants disagreed that bisexuality is a real sexual orientation.

In 2014, a report by the Human Rights Campaign (one of the largest LGBT universities in the United States) provided interesting statistics. Researchers conducted a survey among 10, 000 LGBT people aged 13-16 years. Nearly 40% of this sample was found to be associated with bisexuality. It also found that bisexual youth face the same challenges that lesbians and gay men struggle with. These are social bullying and ridicule, rejection from family members and condemnation in society.

Of course, the current social situation in this regard leaves much to be desired. However, there are already positive changes. And mainly thanks to the mutual support of LGBT representatives. Of course, the existence of bisexuality as a scientific phenomenon requires further empirical and theoretical research. However, the possibility of bisexual orientation should not be dismissed at this time.
