Sex Stats from The Statesman: 2019 Results

The Politician, the student newspaper at Stony Brook University, has been published since 1958. The editors conducted an anonymous survey of 100 readers, focusing exclusively on sex.

These sexual statistics are interesting because they reflect the characteristics of representatives of one young generation:
- 50% are women,
- 47% are men,
- 3% are non-binary or genderqueer.
- 58% are white,
- 16% are Asian,
- 14% are Hispanic.
- 8% are mixed,
- 3% are Black.
- 1% are unknown race.
- Heterosexuals — 67%,
- Bisexuals — 17%,
- Gays — 7%,
- Pansexuals — 5%, and
- Lesbians — 3%.
The remaining 1% are people who haven”t identified their sexual orientation or who identify as “queer” (a gender minority).

There are several popular sexual myths. Some of them haunt people throughout their lives. Sex life, but people don”t know.
Mixed data was obtained from the remaining 10%: “Catholic,” “Sikh,” “agnostic,” and “my own religion.”
The survey found that the average number of sexual partners among participants was 8. For women, this figure was 7, and for men, 5.
The average age of losing virginity was 17.
Unsurprisingly, the most common way to meet people in 2019 was through dating apps. The second most popular way to meet people was through mutual acquaintances.

Despite such diverse sexual preferences, participants take relationships seriously.
