Not enough neural connections? Then just have sex!

Everyone knows that sex is an excellent treatment for many diseases. Among other things, it helps cope with stress, insomnia and headaches. However, recently scientists have become interested in the effect of sex on the brain. More and more studies, both in humans and in animals, continually show that frequent sexual activity has a positive effect on mental performance.

Rat studies
For example, a 2010 study found that male rats experienced a significant increase in the number of neurons after intercourse. Animals in a laboratory study that were allowed daily sexual intercourse for two weeks had significantly more neural connections than those whose sexual activity was limited.
Based on these data, scientists conducted another study in 2013, which also used male rats. Daily doses of mating have been found to be associated with increased activation of new neurons and also promote improved mental function.
Human Behavior Research
Similar results were obtained in experiments on humans. To do this, scientists collected about 7, 000 people aged 50 to 89 years. They were asked to solve several problems that may indicate mental activity. After checking the results, the researchers asked people how often they had sex over the course of a year. The results were found to be consistent with the above work. Those who had the habit of having sex regularly showed higher levels of cognitive and mental activity. In this experiment, scientists theoretically decided to monitor mental processes using the example of older people, whose ingenuity and quick thinking decline with age.

The need for sex can arise in both men and women. “I recognize my beloved by her steps.” sung in a famous song. Is it possible to judge?

In 2017, this theory was proven again. The journal Archives of Sexual Behavior published an article in which scientists determined how sexual activity is related to memory. The experiment involved 78 women aged 18 to 29 years.
Neurons seek connections
And last but not least, a new 2019 study is the icing on the cake. Participants were aged 50 and older. The researchers wanted to track how sex frequency was associated with brain activity and problem-solving skills in thinking and creativity. The results were familiar: frequent sex had a positive effect on the participants” memory. This was confirmed by a short test. It turned out that the greater the emotional connection between partners during sex, the greater the impact on brain function.

Medicine, but not a panacea
However, sex is not an elixir for improving mental performance. It is known that brain power can decrease as well as increase. Sex doesn”t prevent a decrease in its work activity. It only allows you to increase its effectiveness.
As always, humanity needs research that will help establish the cause and effect of such phenomena and clarify what processes occur in the brain during frequent sexual intercourse. However, today”s results are sufficient to confidently say that regular sex is a good helper for the brain.
