Basics of sexology: what kind of science is this? And how relevant is it?

The emergence and development of sexology
Although sexology as a science is relatively young, sex and desire have long occupied an important place in both science and art. In ancient times, this science had slightly different components and slightly different emphases. Then the science of erotology appeared, which paid special attention to the human body and was more philosophical in nature.
In the Middle Ages, sexual science experienced stagnation. This was due to the development and importance of religious views and practices. Sex was considered a fundamental and rather animal necessity.
It was only in the 19th century that the foundations of sexology as we know it today began to take shape. Initially, psychiatrists immersed themselves in this area of research and tried to study the effects of sexual arousal on the psyche. However, gradually, as knowledge accumulated, sexology began to emerge as an independent science, and the interest of specialists in this field shifted towards the study of sexuality, sexual desire and the influence of sex on the body. Sexologists have begun to study how sex affects a person”s emotional and physical health, and how it affects the relationship between a man and a woman.
Features of sexual health
Sexual health is one of the key elements of a person”s overall health. This is especially important for women. Sexual health means not only the absence of genital diseases, but also, of course, a stable and harmonious sex life at the right age.
A healthy sex life implies not only the presence of sexual activity and the absence of coercion in intimate life, but also enjoying this process. Health in this area is possible only if you have a permanent and only partner, but even in this case one cannot talk about complete safety. This applies to sexually transmitted diseases. Only 98% can be protected by condoms. Although the likelihood of infection is very low, sexologists recommend having one permanent partner due to the possibility of infection.

Despite the growing awareness of same-sex relationships, homosexuality is shrouded in many myths. Let me tell you about some of the most.
The criteria for healthy sexuality are:
- The ability to enjoy traditional intimacy.
- Harmonious relationships between sexual partners, absence of embarrassment, awkwardness, fear regarding partners and sex;
- Absence of diseases of the reproductive system, as well as mental disorders due to sexual violence and trauma.
Some consider the desire to appropriately diversify intimate life as a kind of deviation and perversion. However, this is a misconception. Sex is a dish, just like role-playing games or intimate accessories, to which you can add seasonings in the form of accessories. There”s nothing wrong with that. Truly abnormal and deviant behavior is a sadomasochistic tendency, especially of a cruel nature.
Recently, the popularity of sexologists has increased, but this does not mean that people”s sexual health is deteriorating. This means that people are paying more attention to their sexual health. There is no need to be afraid or embarrassed to contact a sexologist, because the sooner the problem is identified, solved, and harmony returns to the partner’s intimate sphere.
What is the job of a sexologist?
The subject of sexology is the realization of sexuality and sexual energy. Sexology is also based on psychological processes, since problems in the sexual sphere leave their mark on a person’s psychological health. And that is why it is necessary to seek help from a sexologist, casting aside all doubts and fears, in order to prevent bad things from affecting your overall well-being.
One of the most common problems that sexologists treat is the lack of orgasm, and in most cases this problem is faced by women. The problem is solved very quickly, and after a full examination, the specialist prescribes treatment, which over time brings sexual life back to normal.
However, this is far from the only problem that sexologists face. Orgasm is the highest point in intimate life, but if a person does not enjoy the process in principle, if he is unlikely to achieve orgasm, then the solution to this problem lies in the hands of a sexologist.

Problems requiring the intervention of a sexologist:
- Early or, conversely, late sexual attraction.
- Lack of sexual arousal;
- Absence or early ejaculation;
- Fear or psychological trauma associated with sexual intercourse.
- Sex education and hygiene.
In most cases, sexologists prefer to work with the couple rather than with one partner to solve problems.
