History of homosexuality and its evolution in different countries

I think I know almost everything about homosexuality. The media is constantly covering this topic, celebrities make statements, often come out and hold numerous gay pride parades. All this creates the illusion that homosexuality, if it has not appeared in the last 20 years, has at least only now become very popular. In fact, this judgment is incorrect. The mockery of love is not only a movement in modern society; the history of homosexuality dates back thousands of years.

What is homosexuality?
Homosexual couples develop the same relationships as heterosexual couples. They have emotional dependence, sexual attraction and partnership. Such couples can create families and have children. They can also have casual, short-term relationships.
There are two opposing opinions in society. Some believe that homosexuality is a disease, others believe that it is a norm of behavior. The definition is as follows: homosexuality is nothing more than attraction to members of the same sex. Attraction can be emotional and sexual. But how do they become gay?
From a scientific point of view
Modern medicine has demonstrated that there are systems in human DNA related to sexual orientation. Interestingly, the brain structures of heterosexuals and homosexuals differ. All this leads scientists to the idea that a person’s genes directly influence his sexual orientation even before birth.
Psychologists have conducted many experiments and studies. The goal is to understand and determine the causes of the development of homosexuality. After all, psychology, unlike scientific medicine, considers love for one”s same-sex partner to be an acquired trait that is best linked to childhood memories and family patterns.

At some point, this form of partnership came under serious criticism from psychologists who began to forcefully treat it. Until, finally, in 1973, the American Psychological Association removed homosexuality from its list of disorders.
Main historical stages
From the beginning of time until today, the history of homosexuality has experienced a truly American descent through many ups and downs. At first no one considered it unnatural, but then it began to be considered the norm. Then they began to condemn and fight until they could accept him again. Historically significant events were associated with the manifestation of homosexuality on the part of rulers. Many countries accepted and rejected such relationships.
Same-sex relationships were, are and will remain rare. When a girl loves a girl and a man loves another man, this is a departure from.
A certain attitude towards homosexuality already existed in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The Greeks not only did not reject such love, but also saw practical benefits in it. Some of the strongest Greek warriors were considered strong precisely because there was romantic love between them. In Rome the situation was somewhat different. Moreover, it was a sexual attraction, not a spiritual one.
In general, there were no negative attitudes towards homosexuality, with the exception of Jews. The biblical covenants did their job, and at the beginning of the 4th century the death penalty was introduced, which later became a burning punishment for having sex with a same-sex partner. Interestingly, the topic of homosexuality received positive development during political and spiritual crises. Thus, Emperor Justinian declared that homosexuality was the cause of the Huns and earthquakes.
Europe
Homosexuality became a disease requiring treatment only in the 20th century. They struggled with castration, electrotherapy, lobotomy, hormones and forced masturbation, which was abruptly interrupted by light.

Homosexuality gained widespread attention in the 1980s, during the era of free love in the West. The Soviet Union was later closed down due to such a movement, but in the United States same-sex relationships had their fruits. Unprotected casual sex has led to a real boom in HIV transmission. It is believed that it was these events that took place against a homosexual background that attracted special attention to the problem of AIDS among the population as a whole.
The fight against homosexual relations continued in the United States for a long time, and only in the 21st century did people begin to actively fight for their rights. Numerous gay pride parades take place, celebrities reveal their sexual orientation, and same-sex marriage is officially allowed. Today, Europe is striving to protect the rights of homosexuals.
Russia
In Russia they were much more established in relationships between people of the same sex. Thus, until the 12th century, the punishment for such relationships was only church repentance, and physical punishment appeared only in the 13th century.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, there has been a detailed and active conflict between homosexuals in the USSR. It was believed that “fags are engaged in recruitment and corruption.” Article 121 was added to the Criminal Code, providing for penalties of up to five years for the same sexual relationship. From a political point of view, same-sex couples are conditionally accepted by society in modern Russia, while society itself has a generally negative attitude towards this.

East
In the East, attitudes towards same-sex couples remain extremely negative. In the East, it is not customary to talk about your sexual orientation. Moreover, if a person is found to be obsessed with love for members of the same sex, he will face the death penalty.
After centuries of denial of homosexuality, what is happening now may simply be a reaction. We can assume that soon everything will fall into place and we will treat homosexual and heterosexual couples. Unless, of course, the history of homosexuality gives us the next reason to be for or against gay rights.
