Why do we dream about sex?
Why do we have sexual fantasies? The first thought is to increase sexual arousal or experience pleasure. However, this is just one of many possible reasons why we may fantasize about sex. This survey examines the most common causes of sexual fantasies, according to a survey of 4, 175 Americans.

5) To express or satisfy socially prohibited sexual needs (reported by 58. 4% of participants);

6) To plan future sexual contacts (reported by 55. 7% of participants).
7) To relieve or reduce anxiety (reported by 43. 6% of participants).

9) feeling more sexually confident (reported by 32. 5% of participants); and
10) Satisfaction of unmet emotional needs (reported by 29. 8% of participants);
11) block distractions during sex (reported by 19. 8% of participants); and
12) to compensate for an unattractive or unwanted partner (reported by 11. 8% of participants).
A small number of participants (6. 8%) reported reasons for fantasies other than those listed above. These reasons included “just happened/can’t help myself,” “helps me sleep,” “writing erotic fiction,” “reliving a past experience,” and even “I don’t know.”
