What is it?
There are several definitions of the term “andrixual.” Most often, an androxical is someone who is attracted to masculinity. Note that attraction to masculinity does not necessarily mean attraction to men alone. Andrixuals are attracted to masculinity in all its manifestations, including masculine mannerisms, clothing style, and so on.
Sometimes, this term is understood as a characteristic attributed to cisgender men (those who were born male and identify as such). However, this interpretation of the term is very one-sided. This is because androgynous people perceive sexuality somewhat differently.
And sometimes, people who are attracted to phenomenal personalities are attracted to androgynous people. It”s important to remember that issues of gender and sexuality are not black and white. Different people may have different ideas about androsexuality.
Origin of the term
This term is of Greek origin.
Dr. Irwin says it”s not known exactly when the term was first coined. However, since andro (andros) is simply a Greek word meaning “man,” its origin is straightforward.
Androphile
In discussions of androsexuality, you might also hear the term androphile. Dr. Irwin says they essentially mean the same thing, but with a caveat.
“This term sounds more clinical and can be off-putting. It can also be used to refer to a preference for genitals rather than gender identity. But language is a very fluid thing, so it”s highly dependent on personal interpretation.”

In other words, the term can be used to refer to androsexuality. But this sounds a little more general. And since everyone puts something of their own into these concepts, it can be very difficult to understand them.
Heterosexual women
This does not mean that all heterosexual women are androsexual by default. Dr. Irwin believes that andricuality is a more specific label. At the same time, it cannot be denied that some heterosexual women may identify as androsexual.
“It”s a little dangerous to put people into categories that they don”t belong to. So I like to avoid that,” he says.
Monica identifies as Andrixal. She says that for her personally, this involves being attracted to men. “For some, this may mean being attracted to transgender people. I”m only attracted to cisgender men. I”m attracted to all men — smell, touch, feel, height, etc. I think that”s why I prefer taller men — being tall puts an emphasis on masculinity, which I find very attractive. Ironically, I”m also attracted to masculine gay men,” Monica explains.

Genderqueer
Can heterosexual cisgender women appropriate the term? Dr Irwin believes this could be divisive. “If a particular heterosexual cisgender woman identifies as androschisis, it is appropriate that she is also interested in transgender people, gender-bending children and queer people. If she experiences heterosexual toxicity, she may not understand this behavior in LGBT circles,” he explains.
In other words, the term andrixual still refers to LGBT+ people.
Outside the box
The term goes beyond binary gender orientation terms such as heterosexual or homosexual.
Andrixuals may also identify as genderqueer or genderqueer (they may not identify as one gender). They then become sexually attracted to a variety of people, those who identify as male and those who simply appear masculine.
As mentioned above, issues of gender identity defy rigid boundaries and stereotypes. Andrixuals can be both heterosexual and homosexual.
Not just about sex
Monica really wants people to understand that androgyny is not just about sex. “It”s an attraction to all aspects of human nature—physical, mental, emotional, and sexual.”
