TOP 10 TV series similar to “Darkness” -10
- In the dense forest ends in 2020

Polish series purchased by Netflix. This can already be seen as a guarantee of quality: Netflix carefully monitors what is needed for broadcasting, and foreign projects rarely make it there.
The plot is as follows: 20 years ago, six children disappeared at a children”s camp. Four bodies were found, two were not. One of the missing was the sister of the main character of the series. Then, 20 years later, the body of a man is found, whom he recognizes as the boy who disappeared 20 years ago. Now the main character believes that his sister may be alive, and is ready to do anything to find her.
- “Swamp”, 2021, end.

The main characters — a company of five unrelated young people — come to a village called “Speaks” (a place of stress — to determine the best of their injuries). They want to take a break from the noisy big city, but the village has been destroyed and only a few half-dead inhabitants remain.
Russian series. The script was written by Glukhovsky, so if you like his “metro” or “text”, then you will like it. No, there is neither Kozlovsky nor Petrov! Amazing, isn”t it?
- 2020, “Unorthodox”, end

This series is based on an autobiographical book, which is already interesting (like, seriously, how often do you see that?). In the atmosphere, something rarely resembles a “storyteller’s tale” or “forest,” but here it seems far from dystopian.
According to the plot, the main character flees the Orthodox community, observes very strict Jewish customs and tries to start a new life while her parents try to find her. Interesting, dramatic and very psychologically reliable — this is an autobiography.
- “Punisher”, 2017-2019, in full.

A continuation of many interconnected TV shows that are much more depressing than the Marvel superhero universe. If you like Soldier or Jessica Jones, you”ll love this work. According to the plot, a family man subjected to epic retribution by the mafia becomes a much tougher, bloodthirsty Avenger, not in Gotham, but in New York, like Batman.
It”s a bit like Law Abiding Citizen, but grittier and darker, and even makes the series laugh at the consequences of its actions for the main character.
- Fortude, 2015-2018, end.

If you enjoy the beauty of Northern Europe, with its icy fjords, rugged pine trees, and sweeping skies, you”ve definitely come to the right place—there”s plenty of it here. A captivating atmosphere and superb performances from this Norwegian detective are also included.
The plot is set in a quiet, idyllic town on a fjord. Everything is so perfect that I can”t believe it, which means there must be a catch somewhere. And the catch does indeed appear when a murder occurs in the town, and every resident discovers they have something to hide.
- The Alienist, 2018, unfinished.

10 Most Unpredictable TV Series
The series is interesting for its atmosphere, its attempt to penetrate the psychology of a criminal, and Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans also play roles here. “Tide,” 2016, unfinished.
- Another series enchanted by the colors of Northern Europe, similar in tone to “Fortitude” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” mentioned above, but set in the jungle. In the 1990s, in a cold Scandinavian town, a pregnant woman was brutally murdered, but she herself could not reveal who she was or who killed her. In the present day, a young police officer discovers the case in the archives and decides to investigate, becoming obsessed with the idea.

The series has several interesting ideas. The creators take historical events that are very interesting in themselves (stories of survival, stories of brave expeditions, stories of overcoming great difficulties), and first try to frighten and immerse the viewer in them, filming them in the traditions of horror. The viewer is completely immersed in this oppressive atmosphere, and an element of mysticism is also added. In the first season, we added these elements to the story of the Arctic expedition, and in the second, to the story of Japanese garrison.
Ozark, 2017, unfinished.
- By the way, it won nine Emmy Awards!

Typically, detective series feature a specific detective or someone who takes on this role and investigates the case. Here, however, the protagonist is an unusual criminal himself. He carries out financial scams on behalf of the mafia. The mafia, and also drug dealers.
He has earned the wrath of his superiors and must now win back their favor and somehow escape his rivals, who have descended on him like vultures. It”s interesting to look at the behavior of a criminal group from the point of view of someone who is clearly not the best person in the world.
“Sinners”, 2017, no date.
- Quiet, calm day in a big city. There are no signs of trouble. Until the main character of the series, a young girl, attacks a man in the middle of the street and kills him. Why did she do this? She doesn”t know herself. And now the detective, and, of course, the audience, must understand what went through her head, what prompted her to commit such an act.
