Marriage Strengthens Bones—But Only in Men Who Wed After 25
The results of a study conducted at the University of California were published in the Osteoporosis Journal International. Men who married for the first time after 25 and were satisfied with the quality of their marriage had the strongest bones (in terms of spine).

Men whose relationships are stable and haven”t previously been disrupted—whether marriage or a committed, long-term relationship—also have stronger skeletons.
These “25-year-old rules” don”t apply to women. However, scientists have found that if a woman receives emotional support from a long-term partner, her bones also become stronger. “This is the first case in history where marriage quality is linked to bone health,” says Caroline Crandall, a professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California.
“Little is known about bone health and the influence of social factors other than socioeconomic factors,” says Caroline. “Health depends not only on healthy habits and lifestyle, but also on other factors, such as diet, smoking, and quitting. This is the story of marriage and relationship quality.”
