National representatives of the American Adult Survey show that about one in seven adults today is in a sexless marriage. Despite how common such marriages are, there is surprisingly little research on the topic. Why does sexual activity mostly decrease and how does this affect the partner? Moreover, what factors might people use to maintain such relationships despite the fact that the experience is very upsetting in the first place?

The most frequently cited factors contributing to decreased sexual activity were gender, sexual dysfunction (eg, erection difficulties), physical appearance, addiction, illness and/or lack of desire in a partner, and physical problems of infidelity (eg, erection difficulties).
Why is there no sex in the family?

Others reported difficulty concentrating (for example, having difficulty thinking about anything other than sex) and low self-esteem. Most said that lack of sex is a major problem in their lives.
As you can see, marriage without sex is a difficult test, and not everyone passes it.
