Sex for pleasure: even female dolphins are “up for it”

I”ve often heard that dolphins are amazing creatures. They can help people cope with sadness and maintain fidelity to their partners. But ultimately, they even prefer sex for pleasure.

Detailed studies of clitoral dolphins have shown that these sea creatures may belong to a small group of animals.
Dolphins are known to have sex year-round, even when they are unable to conceive.
In other animals that do this, including humans, sex primarily through clitoral stimulation is comfortable for women.
This led a group of scientists to study the genital anatomy of dolphins and determine what pleasure—if any—women derive from more adult sex. Dr. Dara Orbach of Mount Holyoke University led the study, analyzing and scanning the reproductive organs of 11 female black-backed dolphins that died naturally.

The animals not only had large, well-developed clitorises, but also clitorises very similar to those found in humans.

Dr. Orbach presented her findings at the annual meeting of the American Anatomical Society in Orlando.
