History of pheromones
Pheromones are a substance that is released into the environment by organisms — plants, animals and insects. With their help, a kind of communication occurs between representatives of the same species.
It was first discovered in 1962 by a group of German biologists who were able to detect a substance they called a bomb. With their help, the female silkworm received a signal that the male was ready to mate. The molecules of this substance can spread for kilometers in the surrounding area, attracting all male representatives who are ready to create offspring.
Many scientists were shocked by this discovery and the prospects it opened up for them. Several years after this incident, thousands of different types of pheromones were discovered in various representatives of the animal and plant world. And, of course, someone might assume that someone can distinguish such substances in the surrounding space.
Many theories soon emerged, claiming that certain odors of human retreat could attract both men and women, depending on the gender of the person the pheromone was being used on. Officially, however, the “special” secretions of Homo sapiens have not yet been discovered.
The first proof that human pheromones actually exist was conducted in 1971. It was conducted on more than 130 girls who lived on campus in conditions of almost complete isolation from male representatives.
And during this experiment, it was discovered that their menstrual cycles gradually began to synchronize with each other. Unfortunately, subsequent experiments were unable to replicate the same results. Scientists were convinced that it was a simple accident.
Subsequently, a huge amount of other research was carried out, as a result of which many of the following “human pheromones” were discovered. People really wanted to believe that there was a “magic button”. He easily attracts members of the opposite sex and enters into sexual contact with them.
However, science has always dashed people”s new hopes with reasonable counterarguments.
Some scientists have not given up and are looking for the very substance in the human body that can excite others. However, they have yet to obtain conclusive evidence that these pheromones actually exist.
Pheromones in perfumery
Today, various perfumes with pheromones for men are especially popular. Despite the fact that there is no scientific confirmation of the existence of these substances yet, they were somehow synthesized by manufacturers and added to cologne.
Judging by the advertising campaigns of some products, these hypnotic and intoxicating molecules have a certain effect on the fair sex who are lucky enough to inhale them. However, it”s worth looking into whether these colognes and perfumes actually work, if at all.
A group of Australian scientists conducted an experiment on this topic. Four groups of people gathered — two entirely female and two entirely male. The first group of men and women were shown photographs of members of the opposite sex who had not been exposed to pheromone perfumes.
They had to rate the people in the photographs on a scale from 1 to 10. The second group was shown the same photographs and asked to rate the people in the pictures. During the first stage of the experiment, no one was exposed to pheromones.
However, already in the second stage of this experiment, the first group of men and women were given perfume containing pheromones of the opposite sex, after which they had to evaluate the proposed photograph again. The second group was given regular perfume and asked to rate the appearance of people in photographs.
If these colognes and perfumes actually contained pheromones, the first group of men and women would feel more empathy for the people shown to them and would “throw” them a few extra points. But they rated them with the same degree of attractiveness as those who were not given the pheromones.

The idea of a strong, happy, healthy and ideal relationship and the concept of a perfect relationship is often confusing and misinterpreted. It”s not.
But scientists didn”t stop there. They conducted another experiment. They were shown photographs of people whose faces had been CG-designed to appear attractive to both men and women, and from which their gender could not be determined.
And before assessing the appearance of these people, the subjects were allowed to inhale “pheromones” of the opposite sex. According to the scientists, men had to call the people in the photographs feminine, and women — masculine. However, the perfume did not affect their perception at all.
Male and female subjects perceived all the people in the photographs as equally attractive to both men and women. In other words, the substance in the body had no effect on the perception of attractiveness to the opposite sex.
Cologne and aphrodisiacs
It would not be an exaggeration to say that there are spirits that, to one degree or another, attract the opposite sex. However, they do not contain pheromones, but aphrodisiacs, which are natural substances.
In most cases, only women use them, but men should also know that such funds exist and can be really useful in some situations. Unfortunately, the cost is not at all affordable, especially in Russian conditions, since cunning marketers can disguise such products as containing “real pheromones.”
How do such funds work? They completely retain the principle of aphrodisiac action. When particles land on the skin and are then inhaled, the body is saturated with various natural elements, minerals and other elements that it lacks for some reason (low amount of vitamins in the diet, due to insufficient consumption of certain foods, polluted environment in poor conditions).
And when these microelements are absorbed, you can actually observe a surge of energy and increased sexual activity.
All this is due to the fact that male and female aphrodisiacs are able to restore weakened arousal functions, saturating the body with substances necessary for the functioning of the reproductive system. As you understand, if a person has nothing to restore (all his systems work well), such perfumes will not be effective.
What natural products have similar properties? Most often, we”re talking about musk, fig, and grapevine. Interestingly, perfume shops and specialty pharmacies can”t charge a hefty price for perfumes containing cologne or pheromones, as these scents are available at very reasonable prices.
Pheromones and sexuality: what science says
Can perfumes with pheromones work?
There”s good news for those who”ve fallen for the persistent advertising and rumors about the miraculous effects of these “pheromones.” But not in the sense originally intended.
In this situation, a powerful placebo effect can be observed. People who wear such perfumes firmly believe that they help them feel more confident, more relaxed, and more sociable.
In other words, the perfume makes them more comfortable in conversation and more attractive as a person for the duration of the perfume”s wear. Many people lack the courage and confidence that color, along with pheromones for men, can provide.
Several people participated in the study and shared their experiences. This confirms this hypothesis. Here”s what one participant, Maxim, had to say:
I didn”t know if this cologne could help me. I”d heard a lot about it, but I decided to give it a try. For a long time, I couldn”t meet any of the girls I liked. Then, frustrated, I decided to start all over again. Only this time, nothing worked out for me; everything went according to the usual scenario; I was simply stitched up. Now I”m not at all sure that anything can help me.”
In other words, Maxim initially doubted the effectiveness of this product and thought the scent would do all the work for him. However, this turned out to be a mistake, as perfume contains no pheromones. The following example shows how confidence can help when meeting women. This story was shared by another study participant named Evgeny.
I completely despaired of finding someone who was already in a relationship. I spent several months alone until I fell in love with a new coworker. I decided to start over. Then a friend told me about these pheromones. I followed his advice, bought this cologne, and used it until we met.
And I decided that I would never wait for failure, because this remedy would definitely help. And we really got to know each other. Indeed, it later turned out that the girl did not push me away only because I was nice, friendly, sociable and a little persistent. But she didn”t say anything about fragrances.”
Perfume with pheromones is not just for men. In terms of boosting self-esteem, they can help women find their partners. A study participant named Oksana shared the following story.
“I”ve always spent very little time on perfumes, etc. I didn”t believe that this could somehow help me. On public transport, I often encountered people who literally smelled of one or another cologne or perfume, so I secretly wore it, thinking that I would smell the same.
Then I came across perfumes containing pheromones. The sellers promised that with a simple scent they could attract the attention of men. I decided to give it a try because my personal life was turbulent at the time.
And the results surprised me. On the street, people came up to me more often to get to know each other. I realized that it was in the spirit and in my behavior. I knew I smelled amazingly seductive and people noticed.
Then I read about pheromones on the Internet, and it all turned out to be a scam for profit. But I understood how they worked — they gave me confidence and allowed me to stand out from the gray, monotonous crowd.
Pheromones have been found to be beneficial to varying degrees for both men and women. Of course, one can be cynical about all the spirits that supposedly contain them because they have yet to be discovered. However, if you have confidence that everything will work out, you can have great success in meeting and communicating with the opposite sex. It is this confidence that pheromones give.
