Harm or benefit?
In general, there are two main views on pornography. Some people believe that there is nothing wrong with it — that it is a “sexually explicit” form of pornography. Others are convinced that erotic videos influence people in the most negative way. Others are convinced that pornography use leads to health problems. Which of these points of view is correct?
Results of a survey conducted in the USA
This study used data from the large-scale social survey GSS. In the United States, this type of survey is considered the most reliable in social research. The GSS has been tracking demographic and behavioral changes in society since 1972 and is funded by the US National Science Foundation.
Thus, in this study, subjects were asked to fill out a questionnaire with the following columns.
- “How many sexual partners have you had in the last year?”
- “How many sexual partners have you had in the last five years?”
- “Did you use a condom the last time you had sexual intercourse?”
- “Have you ever resorted to paid sexual services?”
- “How do you feel about adult premarital sex?”
- “How do you feel about teenage sex?”
- “Have you ever had illicit sex?”
- “How do you feel about pornography?”
A total of 14, 193 men were surveyed.

Perhaps the French could have thought about such questions, but, unfortunately, the Estonians took the baton because they were too busy with their own.
What were the results? In the 1970s, it was found that only 26% of men view pornography. In 2000 — already 34%. The study”s authors estimate that pornography consumption is increasing by 0. 5% every year.
They also found that fans of erotic videos were more likely to be tolerant of teenage sex, physical intimacy, and marriage and family ties. The researchers were concerned that this group was more willing to compromise sex work for the sake of money and multiple sexual partners. Above all, sexual behavior strategies can seriously impact men”s health.

Pornography and Relationships: Statistics
Another study, conducted by Franklin Paulsen and Dina Busby in 2013, examined the impact of pornography on overall sexual satisfaction. The researchers surveyed 617 men and women about whether they had watched pornographic videos and whether they were satisfied with their sex lives and relationships.
It turned out that 64% of women reported never watching pornography. Thirty percent did so less than once a month.
As for men, 10% watched pornography three or more times a week, while 16% watched it once or twice a week. Thirty-one percent watch erotic videos less than once a month. Researchers also examined the relationship between these indicators and overall sexual satisfaction and concluded that men”s pornography viewing negatively impacts couples” sex lives. Researchers found that many women were ready to end their relationship after learning about their spouse”s pornography addiction.
However, another study found that watching pornography together can lead to increased sexual satisfaction. However, most men and women prefer to watch pornography alone.
Therefore, it is not yet entirely clear how pornography affects personal relationships. Further research in this area is needed to shed light on this complex issue.
